Student Health Services - Lab:

UCF Health - Student Health Services (SHS) provides various primary and specialty care services to help keep students, faculty and staff at their optimum health. The Health Center is located on the Main Campus. Our services are designed with students, faculty and staff needs in mind. Become a part of our committed UCF Student Health Team as the SHS Lab Manager and deliver outstanding care to our community.

The Opportunity:

The Clinical Lab Manager for Student Health Services Laboratory department plans and implements overall laboratory policies, procedures and services. The Manager ensures effective and efficient departmental operations, including department quality control and regulatory compliance adherence.

Classification Title: Manager, Health Office

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Staff Management:

  • Mentor, counsel, and manage laboratory staff performance, including planning, monitoring, and appraising job performance.

  • Schedule and assign staff; monitor workflow and follow up on results.

  • Foster teamwork and contribute to overall team objectives.

Laboratory Operations & Patient Services:

  • Maintain competency in core laboratory functions and provide hands-on operational support as needed to ensure continuity of services.

  • Perform patient-facing duties, including greeting and educating patients on specimen collection.

  • Process specimens (e.g., phlebotomy, centrifuging, labeling) and ensure accurate data entry into the electronic health record (EHR).

Inventory & Supply Management:

  • Monitor laboratory supply levels, anticipate needs, and place orders.

  • Verify receipt and maintain appropriate inventory levels.

Equipment Management & Maintenance:

  • Establish and enforce quality standards for laboratory equipment.

  • Develop and maintain procedures for operations, quality control, and troubleshooting.

  • Ensure proper equipment performance, including certification, servicing, repairs, and replacement.

Quality Assurance & Process Improvement:

  • Oversee quality control and quality assurance programs.

  • Conduct competency testing, generate reports, and maintain compliance records.

  • Identify and implement improvements to policies, procedures, and laboratory processes.

  • Evaluate and implement new tests, methods, instrumentation, and programs.

Clinical Coordination & Problem Resolution:

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve issues.

  • Use EHR systems to coordinate billing, verify insurance, confirm pricing, and ensure patient understanding prior to services.

  • Ensure all laboratory activities are completed, documented, and closed out daily.

  • Participate in committee meetings.

Research Support:

  • Assist with research studies, including specimen collection and instrument operation in accordance with study protocols.

Compliance, Training & Professional Development:

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education, workshops, and professional engagement.

  • Ensure compliance with state licensure and continuing education requirements.

  • Provide and monitor in-service training programs.

  • Complete all required university, AHSC, and SHS trainings.

Administrative & Organizational Support:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Medical Director, Executive Director, or designee.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Phlebotomy Certification.

  • Supervisory or lead experience in a clinical or medical laboratory setting.

  • Experience with student health, outpatient, and/or ambulatory care environments; Working collaboratively with clinical staff and administrative teams.

  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen processing across multiple test types.

  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and lab information systems.

  • Strong knowledge of lab operations, staff scheduling, quality assurance and control, regulatory compliance standards, inventory, equipment maintenance, and vendor coordination.

  • Experience with billing processes, insurance verification, and patient financial communication.

  • Familiarity with laboratory operations that support research studies.

  • BLS Certification. UCF SHS accepts the American Heart Association (or equivalent as indicated on the certification) which includes the hands-on demonstration portion.

The most successful candidates may possess the following qualities:

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of lab operations, staff scheduling, quality assurance and control, regulatory compliance standards, inventory, equipment maintenance, and vendor coordination.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

  • The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is $42,367 - $56,665.75. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

  • This is a time-limited and auxiliary funded position. Employment is subject to the availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday; within the hours of 8:00 AM- 6:30 PM (8 hour shifts/40 hours a week). Saturdays may be required within the hours of 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Hours are subject to change due to operational needs, special projects and/or emergencies.
