Job Summary
Responsible technical work involved with the enforcement of City of Pompano Beach Code of Ordinances. The role includes conducting both reactive (complaints) and proactive (self-initiated) field and waterway inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant parcels. The position enforces and reviews municipal, zoning, waterways, business tax, and building laws and regulations. It requires preparing, organizing, and maintaining case files to present cases and testifying at quasi-judicial hearings. The work further involves researching information regarding policies, laws, regulations, business tax receipts, engineering, environmental, landscaping, permits, and building and zoning requirements. Researching ownership of various residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant properties within the City is also an integral part of the job.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide code compliance information to address client issues and educate concerned parties.
- Attend homeowner and civic association meetings.
- Post and mail hearing and violation notices.
- Compile and prepare written reports on investigations; maintain all inspection results; and prepare correspondence and notices of violations in a computerized case management environment.
- Identify structures that may be unsafe and initiate the appropriate follow-up action.
- Flex work schedule as needed, including working nights, weekends, and holidays, to perform assigned responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- At least two (2) years of paid work experience dealing with the public in any of the following types of work:
- Code enforcement
- Planning
- Building inspection or construction
- Other closely related fields
- A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Licenses / Certifications
- Must possess F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Fundamental of Code Enforcement Certification or be able to become certified within one (1) year of employment
- Possession of a valid Florida driver's license.
Key Competencies
- Proficient with computers, office equipment, and standard administrative practices.
- Strong knowledge of investigative procedures, documentation, and building construction.
- Thorough understanding of City codes, ordinances, services, and municipal structures as they relate to code enforcement.
- Skilled in applying principles, practices, and techniques of code violation investigation and enforcement.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within Municipal Services.
- Experienced in supervising, motivating, mentoring, and evaluating code enforcement staff.
- Capable of compiling inspection data, preparing detailed reports, and maintaining accurate records.
- Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving public issues and complaints.
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to handle irate customers with professionalism and courtesy.
- Strong relationship-building skills with City officials, employees, and the public.
- Proficient in operating standard office technology, including PCs, calculators, copiers, and fax machines.
Physical Requirements
- Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
- Occasional lifting of large sets of plans and specifications.
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
