WSP is seeking a Deputy Project Manager - Water Resources / Site Civil Engineer to join our Tampa, FL office and support a growing portfolio of municipal and resilience-focused projects across the Tampa Bay region. This role is structured to bridge technical delivery and project management, providing a clear path toward Project Manager responsibilities.
You will support the Tampa Water Team in delivering stormwater, watershed, and resilience projects for local government clients, including counties and municipalities. The position emphasizes day-to-day project coordination, technical execution, and client-facing support, while continuing to build advanced design capabilities.
This role is ideal for an engineer ready to move beyond pure design and take on increased responsibility for project delivery, team coordination, permitting, and client support.

Your Impact
- Support Project Managers in executing stormwater, watershed, and civil projects from planning through design and construction.
- Coordinate with internal multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, GIS, environmental, and construction services) to track progress, manage deliverables, and maintain schedules.
- Perform and oversee technical work including:
- Stormwater management design (ERP systems, treatment, attenuation)
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS, ICPR/StormWise, SWMM)
- Watershed and floodplain analyses
- Drainage and grading design to support permitting and construction
- Prepare and review:
- Engineering calculations
- Technical reports
- Construction plans and specifications
- Coordinate permitting efforts and support regulatory agency interactions.
- Assist in managing project scope, schedule, and budget, including tracking task progress and supporting invoicing.
- Participate in client meetings and contribute to technical discussions and decision-making.
- Support public engagement efforts, workshops, and stakeholder coordination as needed.
- Conduct site visits and support construction phase services, including observation, documentation, and response to contractor inquiries.
- Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on design tasks and modeling efforts.
- Support proposal development, including scope writing and effort estimation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a focus in Water Resources or related discipline.
- 3-7 years of relevant experience in stormwater, water resources, or site civil engineering.
- Experience supporting project delivery, including coordination of tasks, schedules, and technical deliverables.
- Working knowledge of:
- Stormwater management and design
- Hydrology and hydraulics
- Drainage and grading design
- Experience with design and modeling software such as:
- Civil 3D
- ArcGIS
- HEC-RAS / HEC-HMS / SWMM / ICPR (or similar)
- Familiarity with Florida permitting processes (SWFWMD ERP, local government requirements, and applicable federal permits).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams and clients.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and support project delivery in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Florida (or ability to obtain).
- Experience with municipal stormwater or watershed projects in the Tampa Bay region (e.g., Pinellas, Hillsborough, Sarasota, Manatee).
- Experience supporting project budgets, schedules, and client coordination.
- Familiarity with resiliency, flood mitigation, and adaptation planning efforts.
- Experience mentoring junior staff or leading small task teams.
