Advanced Systems Design is seeking a Developer, Mid (Java) for our client.

This is a work-from-home opportunity.

The Challenge

The Inbound eRX team supports mission-critical capabilities for the Department of Veterans Affairs within the Patient Care product line. As a Developer, mid (Java), you will help deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions across the full software lifecycle. You will work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to translate mission needs into measurable outcomes, manage technical and delivery risks, and support high-quality releases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java application software and integrations throughout the SDLC.
  • Translate requirements into maintainable code, automated tests, data validation, logging, and secure error handling.
  • Participate in code reviews, defect resolution, documentation, CI/CD, and production support.
  • Collaborate with analysts, architects, testers, DevSecOps engineers, and product owners to deliver working software.
  • Identify technical risks and recommend pragmatic improvements to reliability, performance, and maintainability.

Must Have
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience in the primary technology named in this JD or a closely related stack.
  • Experience with APIs or integrations, automated testing, source control, code review, and CI/CD.
  • Strong debugging, documentation, secure coding, and SDLC practices.
  • Experience with healthcare, pharmacy, medication-management, e-prescribing, or other clinical application workflows is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required government credentials, including a PIV where applicable.

Nice If You Have
  • Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs, federal health IT, or other regulated healthcare programs.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Git, Microsoft 365, and collaborative Agile delivery tools.
  • Experience with VistA patch development and release processes, InterSystems IRIS, MUMPS, or VA Pharmacy applications.
