We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Drainage & Street Technician to join our team of professionals. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the City of Weston's roadway and water management infrastructure including but not limited to streets, traffic signage, storm drainage systems, stormwater pump stations, lake maintenance, and aquatic and shoreline chemical treatment. The position is also responsible for reviewing the work of contractors engaged in the maintenance and repair of Weston's infrastructure. Proficiency in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems such as City Works is desirable.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices of the City of Weston.

  • Delivers a high level of customer service.
  • Responds to and resolves service related citizen inquires and complaints.
  • Conducts inspections and performs maintenance needed for city infrastructure.
  • Inspects City owned roadways for pavement condition; traffic signage; sidewalks; streetlights; traffic signals; etc. on predetermined schedule and identifies repairs and/or maintenance needed to either complete or assign to contractors/vendors.
  • Inspects and sprays aquatic herbicides to control aquatic vegetation and shoreline weeds, as needed.
  • Inspects and cleans stormwater catch basins and drains as needed to prevent roadway flooding.
  • Inspects work completed by contractors and vendors involved in the operations and maintenance of Weston's infrastructure.
  • Plans, prioritizes, and coordinates maintenance activities with contractors, as needed.
  • Performs inspections of contractors' repair and maintenance work to ensure completion in accordance with procedures established in the operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) work order systems to review and perform assigned tasks, activities and projects.
  • Perform assignments during Emergency Operations per the City's National Incident Management System (NIMS) organizational chart.
  • Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents; reports all accidents and damage to city property.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or learn within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practice of construction, maintenance, and repair of typical public works-maintained infrastructure.
  • Materials, methods, terminology, equipment, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of water management facilities, streets maintenance, etc.
  • Work order (CMMS) software applications.
  • Equipment, tools, and materials used in typical public works operations.
  • Computers and software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Ability to:
  • Read and understand operations and maintenance manuals; construction drawings; and plans and specifications, as needed.
  • Organize and implement work plans related to repair and maintenance operations and activities.
  • Perform and/oversee complex maintenance duties and operate related equipment.
  • Develop and recommend systems and procedures related to assigned operations.
  • Obtain required NIMS certifications (IS-700, ICS-100, ICS-200).
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience Guidelines
  • Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of operations experience in the Public Works arena.
  • Licensure and/or Certifications: Certified aquatic herbicide applicator license or equivalent is preferred. Possess a valid Florida Driver's license and has an acceptable motor vehicle record.
