Job Description:
The University of Florida, Large Animal Hospital is recruiting 2-3 Large Animal Veterinary Assistants to work Sundays through Saturdays. This is a position that requires a motivated, well-organized, and caring individual. Experience in handling horses is preferred- but will consider experience with other large farm animal species. As a member of our staff, this individual will provide assistance for client services, helping veterinary technicians with patient handling and restraint, supply stocking, equipment care and cleaning.
Duties may include, but not limited to:
Move, handle and restrain patients, including loading and unloading from transport.
Admit and Discharge patients
Escort visiting clients
Feed, hand walk, graze and groom patients
Set up, break down and clean equipment and exam areas
Clean stalls and maintain a clean/sanitary and functionally organized clinical service area
Maintain supply inventory and replenish stock
Laundry
Utilize chemical cleaning and disinfection agents in a safe manner
Monitor, record and report physical signs of patients
Administer topical treatments and hydrotherapy
Assist in minor procedures and treatments
Collect Salmonella samples and submit lab requests
Verify and enter charges into computerized medical record
Collect payments/deposits
Skills Applicant should possess:
Must be reliable, responsible and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
Must possess the physical ability to handle, manipulate and restrain large animals and be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
Must have basic computing skills
Must possess the ability to maintain effective working relationships others
Must possess the ability to multi-task.
Understand basic medical terminology
Be able to maintain a positive attitude at work
Be able to willingly accept constructive criticism from senior staff and clinicians
Will not engage in public derogatory discussions regarding coworkers, referring veterinarians,
clinicians, or students
Ability to follow the appropriate chain of commands
Training and uniforms are provided.
Shifts (typically 8 hours) are available on days, evenings, and weekends. Shift differential paid for evenings, nights, and weekends.
Hourly rate is $15-16.50/hr. based on experience and shift. Health insurance may be available.
Expected Salary:
$15.00 - $16.50 per hour
