Job Summary
The Campus Safety Manager reports directly to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Safety/Security and Risk Management, and risk management programs, initiatives, and related activities, including building and life safety compliance (OSHA, ADA, and fire safety) for all Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC or College) campuses and centers, with an emphasis on the South Lake, along with our Four Corners and Sumter sites.
The Campus Safety manager is responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee and maintain departmental administrative processes.
- Assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of new policies and procedures, training, and emergency plans.
- Maintain working knowledge of relevant federal laws, Florida state statutes, and Florida Administrative Code.
- Supervise and participate in the planning processes of major campus events and special events in consultation with the AVP and appropriate College departments.
- Assist in supervising special events and coordinating safety officer schedules.
- Review and assist in the preparation of safety planning and policy development.
- Participate in major campus events, including but not limited to Welcome Back and Commencement.
- Participate in division, college, or professional committees as assigned, or in the absence of the AVP.
- Serve as a vital front-line and strategic member of the College’s Campus Safety Department.
- Works to further the strategic goals of Campus Safety and the College through thoughtful interactions with all members of the College community.
- Assist in creating and facilitating training for students, faculty, and staff on crime, safety, and risk management, including compliance with annual evacuation/emergency drills.
- Work collaboratively with all areas of the college in addressing safety and security concerns, providing guidance and advice to ensure consistent enforcement of college policies and procedures relating to safety and security.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications & Education
- Required:
- Current Guardian Certification from a Florida Sheriff’s Office, as outlined in Section 30.15(1)(k).
- Must maintain guardian certification through annual firearms requalification and mandatory training throughout employment.
- Associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement, military police, campus safety, or public safety management and progressively responsible supervisory roles.
- Preferred:
- Experience supervising 10 or more direct reports.
- Experience working in campus safety.
- Excellent knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS)
- Established relationships with local law enforcement agencies.
- Experienced in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
Salary range
- $55,000 - $65,000 per year
