Job Description

General Functions:
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a designated nursing unit which includes ensuring quality patient care is being provided in accordance with established nursing practices and procedures. May serve as the Nurse Manager in her/his absence.
Representative Duties/Assignments:


  • Directs and oversees the activities of LPNs, RNs, MAs, Lab Technicians and other assigned staff. Duties include but are not limited to:




  • a. Instructing, educating and reviewing the work of others.

    b. Maintaining standards of the division.

    c. Directing personnel to include work assignments, counseling and corrective discipline.

    d. Preparing work schedules.

    e. Acting on inmate and employee problems.

    f. Submitting employee payroll documents on time.

    g. Assists staff with the completion of med passes, physical assessments, and sick calls.




  • Maintain employee records, which would include accurate attendance records, documented poor work habits and corrective discipline issues, and efficiency reports.


  • Holds monthly staff meetings and makes daily rounds of assigned areas.


  • Assist physicians, nurses and other staff in the provision of care.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, medicine and/or any related allied health profession and four years as a registered nurse with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity. Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.


Must possess a current Florida license as a registered nurse.
BCLS certification.
Must be able to work shifts, including nights and weekends.

Preferences:
Experience in correctional healthcare.

Proficient in IV therapy and phlebotomy.

Salary Information

Pay Grade: 021 - From $39.21 to $50.97
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
