The Safety Business Partner supports Toho Water Authority's occupational safety and health programs through collaboration, communication, and proactive engagement with departments across the organization. Reporting to the Safety and Risk Manager, this position helps implement and maintain safety initiatives by applying knowledge of current safety regulations, standards, and best practices to reduce workplace risks and promote a culture of safety.

Additionally, the Safety Business Partner assists in coordinating with internal teams and external risk management partners to support compliance efforts, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is instrumental in fostering a safe and healthy work environment by building strong working relationships, promoting employee involvement in safety programs, and supporting organizational goals through occupational health and safety best practices.

Essential Functions

  1. Conduct field observations, site visits, and safety inspections to identify hazards, evaluate safe work practices, and promote compliance with organizational safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  2. Partner with operational departments to provide proactive safety support and guidance in both field and facility environments throughout the organization.
  3. Assist the Safety and Risk Manager with the coordination and support of the Safety Ambassador Program, including employee engagement initiatives, safety meetings, and promoting a positive safety culture.
  4. Participate in incident and injury investigations by gathering information, conducting interviews, documenting findings, identifying root causes, and assisting with corrective action recommendations.
  5. Assist in developing and implementing measures, policies, and procedures aimed at preventing the recurrence of workplace incidents, injuries, and safety violations.
  6. Develop, prepare, and distribute safety educational materials, toolbox talks, presentations, and training resources relevant to the water and wastewater utility industry.
  7. Support organizational safety training initiatives by assisting with scheduling, tracking, and delivering safety-related education and awareness programs.
  8. Conduct periodic inspections of facilities, equipment, job sites, and work practices to ensure compliance with safety standards, policies, and applicable regulations, reports, and Safety Data Sheets (STD)
  9. Assist in maintaining safety documentation and records, including incident investigation reports, inspection reports, safety documentation, training records, medical clearance reports, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  10. Assist with logging and tracking occupational injuries and illnesses within designated reporting systems and support compliance reporting requirements.
  11. Collaborate with departments and employees to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in workplace safety practices and risk reduction efforts. Attend safety meetings, departmental meetings, and operational discussions as needed to communicate safety expectations, initiatives, and program updates effectively.
  12. Stay informed on current occupational safety regulations, industry best practices, and emerging trends relevant to the water utility industry.
  13. Have strong technical skills in MS Office Suite and /or other transferable technology skills.
  14. All other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the candidate's ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered.

  1. Associates Degree in Occupational Safety; Occupational Safety and Health; or Associates Degree in Risk (ARM) or related field.
  2. Minimum of five years relevant experience. Relevant experience with large-scale safety programs to include supplier management and fleet maintenance.
  3. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver's License.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Preferred Certified Safety Professional, OSHA 30, Incident Investigation Certification.
