The purpose of this position is to perform advanced professional work planning, developing, and executing citywide special events and integrated marketing strategies that promote the City of Lauderhill's programs, services, and community identity, under the general director of the Chief of Staff, or designee. The incumbent serves as the lead strategist for event production and promotional campaigns, bridging day-to-day coordination functions and division-level administration. This position is characterized by considerable independence, creative and data-informed judgment, and a professional, service-oriented approach to community and stakeholder engagement. Work is reviewed through conferences, campaign performance, event outcomes, and results achieved.

Scheduling Requirement: The ability to work a varied/exempt schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the City's event calendar. Physical Requirements: The ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, which may involve standing and walking for extended periods during events, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 25 pounds), such as event materials, signage, and equipment. Motor Coordination: The ability to coordinate eyes, hands, and feet to utilize and operate office tools, equipment, and machinery; and to handle, sort, and organize documentation. Sensory Requirements: The ability to perceive and differentiate audio and/or visual cues or signals; and to perceive and differentiate depths, and/or textures. Communication: The ability to effectively communicate with City employees, stakeholders, and the general public verbally and in writing to deliver and explain information in a variety of technical and/or professional languages, and to prepare written correspondence, documents, reports, and analyses using proper format, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Functional Reasoning: The ability to apply principles of rational systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Special Events Planning & Production
- Plans, designs, and executes citywide special events, ceremonies, ribbon cuttings, community celebrations, and signature City functions from concept through post-event evaluation.
- Prepares and manages event budgets, cost estimates, and expenditure tracking; monitors spending against approved allocations and identifies cost-saving opportunities.
- Negotiates and coordinates with vendors, entertainers, caterers, rental companies, and service providers; prepares scopes of work and monitors contract compliance.
- Secures sponsorships, partnerships, and in-kind support for City events; cultivates relationships with businesses, community organizations, and civic groups.
- Coordinates event logistics including permitting, site plans, security and public safety coordination, traffic and parking plans, ADA accessibility, and emergency contingency planning.
- Serves as on-site lead during City events, directing staff, volunteers, and vendors and resolving issues in real time.
- Develops annual and campaign-level marketing strategies aligned with City priorities, including audience analysis, messaging frameworks, channel selection, and performance metrics.
- Creates and oversees integrated promotional campaigns across digital, print, social media, email, and traditional media channels in collaboration with Communications Division staff.
- Analyzes campaign and event performance data (attendance, engagement, reach, and return on investment) and prepares reports with recommendations for the Communications Administrator and City leadership.
- Drafts talking points, run-of-show documents, scripts, remarks, and briefing materials for elected officials and executive staff participating in City events.
- Provides project-level direction to Digital Media Coordinators, Content Creators, and support staff assigned to events and campaigns; establishes timelines, deliverables, and quality standards.
- Ensures event and marketing activities comply with applicable City policies, procurement requirements, risk management standards, and Florida public records and ethics laws, including §106.113, Florida Statutes.
- Assists in developing the Division's annual budget request as it relates to special events and marketing initiatives.
- Represents the City at community meetings, regional marketing collaboratives, and professional associations as assigned.
- Attends staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development seminars to maintain and advance professional knowledge.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field; AND
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in special events planning, marketing, or public relations; AND
- Valid State of Florida Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of event planning, production, and logistics management principles and practices.
- Considerable knowledge of marketing strategy, brand management, digital media, and audience engagement techniques.
- Knowledge of municipal government operations, procurement processes, and public-sector budgeting.
- Knowledge of Florida public records law, the Sunshine Law, and §106.113, Florida Statutes, as they relate to government communications.
- Skill in project management, including managing multiple concurrent events and campaigns with competing deadlines.
- Skill in vendor negotiation, sponsorship development, and contract coordination.
- Skill in using marketing and productivity tools, including content management systems, social media platforms, email marketing software, analytics tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to develop creative, data-informed strategies and translate them into executable plans.
