JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. Director & Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) serves as the support function to the company's primary authority for all medical operations across the fleet. This leadership role ensures medical regulatory compliance, supports shipboard medical personnel and operations, the clinic in Manila, and drives continuous improvement in health care delivery and public health practices on board. The DCMO collaborates with the CMO and supporting team to develop policy, coordinate medical training programs, and support emergency response efforts, contributing significantly to the health, safety, and well-being of crew and guests while upholding NCLH's commitment to excellence.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the development and coordination of the strategic direction of fleetwide medical operations, ensuring alignment with international, flag state, and port state medical laws and standards.
- Review and advise on company medical policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Oversee shipboard medical facility operations, inspections, and internal audits, ensuring adherence to medical protocols and public health guidelines.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement throughout the worldwide medical operation.
- Drive financial accountability across the fleet through innovative and accurate inventory management.
- Provide real-time guidance to shipboard medical teams during onboard emergencies.
- Lead the design and implementation of medical training, education, and compliance programs in coordination with internal departments.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to manage the Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) process and medical credentialing of crew.
- Drive utilization of the Manila Clinic and explore opportunities for optimization.
- Support the Legal Department in managing medical-related claims by providing expert insight and relevant documentation.
- Promote shipboard public health awareness and preventive healthcare initiatives for both guests and crew through various Occupational Medicine campaigns and programs.
- Drive innovation and develop new programs to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of medical services across the fleet.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
DEGREE TYPE: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent
FIELD(S) OF STUDY: Medicine, with specialization or knowledge in maritime or occupational health preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in maritime, cruise, or international medical operations, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and healthcare delivery in complex environments or comparable knowledge.
- Minimum of 8 years of management experience, including leading multi-disciplinary medical teams or healthcare operations in a global or distributed setting
- Prior experience working onboard as a Ship's Doctor is highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to engage with international regulatory agencies and drive cross-functional medical initiatives
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
- Deep knowledge of maritime medical operations, including regulatory and compliance frameworks
- Strong leadership, communication, and crisis management skills
- Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and manage global, remote teams
- Strategic thinking with operational execution capabilities
- Familiarity with public health policy development and training program design
- Skilled in conducting internal audits and managing corrective actions
- Competency in managing sensitive medical information in collaboration with HR and Legal functions
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
- Valid and unrestricted Medical Doctor license (required)
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Additional certifications in Maritime Medicine or Public Health (preferred)
